António Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General
The UN Tourism, the specialized United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of tourism, has long considered the private sector to be an integral partner in fulfilling its general mandate of promoting sustainable development in tourism. In addition, UN Tourism is the only agency of the United Nations that has private sector members that participate in the governance structure. We believe that the public and private sectors share many common objectives which, in today´s globalized world, can be more effectively tackled through joint collaboration and the establishment of partnerships.
With a global network of over 500 companies, educational and research institutions, destinations, and NGOs, the UN Tourism Affiliate Members serve as a vital platform for fostering collaboration and innovation in the tourism sector. This unique network of its kind offers members a space to engage in meaningful dialogue, share insights, and drive collective action. The primary mission of the Affiliate Members is to facilitate knowledge exchange and strengthen synergies among tourism key stakeholders from the public and private sectors, ultimately contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
In short, the UN Tourism Affiliate Membership is:
1. An international network of leading entities in the tourism sector
2. A platform to connect with groups with common goals
3. A collaborative space for creating innovative products and exchanging knowledge and ideas
